Strings

Postby mick hearn » Thu Aug 03, 2017 8:22 am

So how do you buy your strings for your lappy. I have been using La Bella for 8 string C6 and they are a lovely set. If however I use SIT from JD I find they are a bit slack because of the shorter scale length. For ten string I am tempted to use La Bella and get the extra 2 from the Ernie Ball selection box.

Hi Mick
My only lap steel is a 10 stringer with 24 and a 1/4" scale tuned to a standard C6 with a D on top, so I can buy any standard C6 strings for pedal steel. I prefer Cobra Coil strings from Nashville because they last a long time before losing their tone. Live Steel Strings are very good too. I usually buy a hundred sets of Cobras at a time when I make a trip to Nashville. However, La Bella are excellent as are GHS who make 85% of the strings that come out of the USA under various packaged names. If you find something that suits you then stick with them.

Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

Hi Mick,
I use Newtone Strings, they are hand wound to order from Neil Silverman who works out of Matlock in Derbyshire. I've got Custom Hex strings and they work for me. I run 8 string C6th with High G and a low A. It took about a fortnight for them to reach me in France but I think it would be quicker for UK. my gauges are 0.012, 0.015, 0.018, 0.022, 0.024, 0.032, 0.036, 0.042

He will make to order so if you want to give them atry he do just one set...www.newtonestrings.com

He also supplies Eagle Music Store and makes sets for Banjo etc.

Worth a try?????

Another vote here for Newtone.

They will make exactly what you want. A few years back I needed some strings for a Fender Bass VI but nobody made them any more and Newtone made me exactly what I needed. Nice people to deal with too.
