Best Amps for Lap Steel Guitar

Postby sabatica » Thu Apr 28, 2016 4:32 pm

I recently played a Vox Pathfinder 10 and despite its cheap price it had all I needed but I am interested in some feedback on a great practice and live amp to use.

Consider the Vox pathfinder has a line out so Volume doesn't need to be that much to monitor as I was thinking about using the line out straight to the PA.

Also I have amp modelling already in built in my multi-effects pedal. So All I really need is a slightly warm amp with a line out and enough volume to hear for small to mid sized events.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Stefan,
My choice would be any amp from the Roland Cube range. Compact, powerful amps with plenty of built in effects and amp modelling. I use a 20w for Lap Steel and my friends use 40w and 80w for their PSG's. They are lightweight and also have the input socket for practice files. Price wise they are very competitive.
If you check through some older posts on the Forum you'll see good reports for the 80w.

I would second Keith's vouch for the Roland Cube. Great little combo and very reasonable price.
GFI Ultra keyless S10 4+5 Emmon's setup + Sigler, Li'l Izzy, Hilton volume pedal, Roland Cube 80gx, Joyo American Sound Pre-amp, Behringer VD400 Delay Pedal, Peterson Strobo Plus HD and a brace of bars, Ben's, Ezzee-Slide, Pearse, BJS, SIT nickel strings.

Thanks guys. Yeah I definitely heard and tried the Cube but it seemed like too many bells and whistles that I didn't need.

I am looking for an amp as simple as possible no modelling etc. As I have an Multieffects pedal that has an unlimited amount of sounds and tones that can be created.

So just a simple amp under £100 with 20 - 40w with enough juice I guess. Maybe the 10 is too little for a band situation. Plus I just got a new gig with a loud band - ooh my poor eardrums.

So if you guys had £100 to spend what would you go for that is just pure amp goodness.

Hi Stefan,
I also use a Solid State Fender Princeton 115 that I find pretty good if you turn down the Treble. It's loud and not too heavy with a reasonable Reverb and you should be able to find one for less than £100 if you shop around.
