Superb Mick! That floats my boat! Excuse my ignorance, but was that done in a C6 tuning and also I couldn't quite see if you have 6 or 8 strings due to the fact I'm watching on my moby?

For Danny - its an 8 string tuned to C13 (So I was reliably informed by Basil) It's C6 with high G and the bottom string tuned to Bb.

Please don't ask me all the chords as I haven't a clue. I just have the nack of playing what sounds right. I keep trying different combinations based on the root note until I find something that fits the background music.

Don't be too hasty in selling Roger. I would love to get that Buddy Emmons sound but there are so many variables and I dont own a guitar with an aluminium neck. I therefore have to try and get the sound from what I have. With the price of steels you cannot afford to swap them on a regular basis and the market is small. I remember many years ago buying a Gibson Les Paul black beauty. Lovely guitar but it didn't give me what I was looking for so eventually got a Fender. More twang for what I wanted to do. Problem solved. It depends what we are looking for.

This recording was done live with the background coming out of the hifi and the steel through a Roland Cube 80 on the JC clean setting.

As for the guitar - well I am still experimenting. I am not a fan of the mud switch as I would sooner have a regular tone pot. On this recording I had tone on the guitar set on the middle setting and the treble right up on the amp. Compare the tone with the recording of Feelings which was done with the tone control on the guitar on bright and the treble backed off on the amp. I have to play around. Also volume was not too loud whereas Dave Hartley apparently plays pretty loud when recording. One of my neighbours would complain like mad if I was too loud. Have had him banging on the wall before now. The volume will drive the amp more therefore a different sound. Will probably have to abandon all these settings at a louder volume.

So play around with your amp settings and also adjust your picking pressure.
