On the 5th of January I ordered a Tone Bar from Jay Selbert of Paloma Stone Slides, what a mistake. I am still waiting for it...several e-mails later and no replies I contacted the PayPal...some pal they are it will be the 15th of February before I can do anything about trying to get my money back. Is it a case of he's only another Brit. so he can wait? No problems with Stewart MacDonald or GFS. If the guy has a production issue why not let me know, he won't even tell me if he's sent it. So as far as I'm concerned this is the first and last time I'll deal with this shmuck. He knows where he can place his Stone Slide Pessary.

When I was at Dallas some years ago I bought a paloma bar, it was a ceramic type with a gloss finish,I think it was $25.
I was able to try it out in the hotel room on a pedal steel a friend had purchased. Within a half hour I had thrown it in the trash, very high friction, sounded awful on pedal steel, perhaps it is made for lap steel.
Best getting Your money back.

Zumbilly, thanks for the vote of confidence in the damn thing, I'm hoping it doesn't arrive now, so I don't have to listen to me strangling a cat.
By the way John, why don't you like the 18 pedal exercise steel??????

Last year I ordered a bar from Rothersay Music via Ebay. He discovered the last one had been sold so immediately emailed with alternatives. I decided to wait until another delivery from the states and this man kept me up to date all the way by telephone. This is the sort of service I like and would deal with them again. Even threw in a set of picks for waiting.

Hi Mick,
I have used Rothersay in the past and like you I had good service, but this time I had brilliant idea go direct to the manufacturer. Mmm, now I've cooled down just a bit, I now realise it was the wrong thing to do. I have a full selection of bought or made for me ToneBars...all work fine, but I thought I'd just like to try this stone thing and then to my disgust I read all the comments and thought this is possibly the best thing since sliced brown bread. Just goes to show I might be older, but I sure am not wiser. That's not quite true...now I am wiser. I would love to know if he has followed my suggestion of using the stone Tone Bar as a Pessary.

Hi Maurice,
I have had a Paloma tone bar for about 9 months. Initially I thought it was very good, light and easy to use. But then I began to feel that it "dragged" a bit when I used it. I have only been trying to play Lap Steel for about a year, but I much prefer a Bullet or SP1 steel bar every time.

Hi Keith,
I am now wishing I hadn't been so clever...I have now had several e-mails from the States and none of them are complementary about the Stone Pessaries. I will wait and see if it arrives...it hasn't materialised yet, try it just for the experience then...this is the best bit...send as a present to someone who has really offended me with the added note to it of 'try this for an implant'!!!!
It is possible being serious for a second, if they start to drag after use it must mean that the Glaze isn't as hard or durable as it is claimed and therefore creating more friction.

If it's top quality service you'r after, then you can't get better than Gerry and Barbara Hogan. (In my humble opinion)

Hi Gretschnut,
Top service could possibly come from where you say, but for me the site is too expensive for me. Price shouldn't dictate whether or not you get good service and also in this instance Gerry Hogan doesn't list the Tone Bar in question. I haven"t looked into buying from UK much because the cost of p and p is in many cases prohibitive. I do have some good suppliers in the UK for strings and picks etc. But heavier items are cheaper from the States, which really annoys me, also postage from the States usually gets to me here in France quicker than from the UK...why I don't know.
