String set recommendations for Slack G on lap

Postby thefatcyclist » Wed Oct 09, 2013 12:47 pm

I just bought my second lap steel, a Guyatone stringmaster D6 cloneish model. I am going to string this slack G...... DGDGBD, but might want to raise the top D to E some times. At this point in my playing learning curve, I have found a nice tight tension seems to suit me best, at least until I really learn to control my downward pressure. The scale length is 221/2 ins and I see listed in catalogues
Jagwire Dobro Medium, Nickeln. .016, .018, .028, .038, .050, .060
Jagwire Rusty Danmyer, Resophonic, Bronze .016, .018, .028, .036, .046, .056
John Pearce 3120L G tuning , .015, .018, .024, .039, .047, .058
John Ely's chart indicates .016, .018, .024, .034, .048, .060

Advice needed on the jagwires and also where to buy these makes of strings in the uk. I like D'Addario XL half rounds, but would have to make a custom set using Jazz mediums and something else to get within the above ball park they are 13-17-26-36-46-56

Opinions on all this chaps
