1954 fender deluxe D8?

i recentley aquired one of the above, i think im gonna have to replace the vol+tone pots? vol goes from off to on full, no in between and the tone does work? kinda...so wanted to replace with a pot capable of good boowah...been reading on the usa forum...

Does it crackle at all in between or is the volume all or nothing at the minute?
