Hi all,
I'm looking for lap steel (preferably weissenborn style) tuition in Devon. I'm really struggling to find anything online so I thought I'd find out if anyone on here knows anyone down here?

Hi Chris, whereabouts in Devon are you? I haven't been playing long enough to teach but I might be able to help out with some basic things? and am always happy to meet other lap steel players to talk about guitars rather than plague other people with that chit chat when they aren't interested! Let me know if you want to talk. Cheers. And I might be able to find some things on the web for you, as I've spent the last few years trawling it for tips and clips of playing.

Hi Chris I too don't have enough experience on lap steel to teach but if you're anywhere near Barnstaple you'd be welcome to drop in on one of my music sessions. Sometimes a group of us play a friendly session in a local pub and sometime we get together here at home.
Three lap steelers in Devon ! maybee there's more ?, maybe we can all meet up one day ??.

I ran a monthly session at the Rolle Quay pub for about 18 months. For various reasons that came to an end in September. There were some very nice evenings we had there playing a variety of 'Americana' music..blues / bluegrass / country and American old time tunes.
I am hoping to get another session up and running in the new year. Possibly at the George hotel in South Molton. There will be (electric) bass, a couple of acoustic guitars mandolin Dobro and the odd banjo or 2 . A lap steel player would be really welcome.
Did you know that the 'champ' pub in Appledore is hosting music 3 or 4 nights a week right now ? That could be another possibility for a get together as they are very music friendly there. When i get something sorted out i will PM you with the details.

Hi people,
Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for the responses!
Ruby, I'm in Chudleigh, near Newton Abbot. Just off the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth. I'm willing to travel though to get myself going! Any extra bits to get myself going would be great!
Tawpick, that sounds great, your meet ups sound like great fun!
Exciting stuff in Devon, I'm positive there are more than 3, definitely one other I know of (my friend Stephen Worley plays a bit, bought my Gosden off of him).
Cheers, C

Tawpick - Went to see Jim Crawford - slide and blues player/singer - in Appledore last night and someone else mentioned the jam night in Appledore at the Champ on Thursday nights, so am going to start going after Christmas. Chris - Chudleigh's not that far really, just across to Whiddon Down then down the A30 for me. Do you know Phil Beer from Show of Hands? He used to live in Chudleigh.

Hope you enjoyed the Jim Crawford gig Ruby. He's a nice chap, vey friendly. I hav'nt been to the champ for a few weeks as we're busy working all hours right now due to the pre christmas rush but as soon as January comes i'll be there.
I'm still planning a South Molton get together for the new year. Maybe it would be an good idea for the three of us to meet there (or some where else convenient ) in January. Whatever, It would be good to meet up,trade licks and learn off of each other and enjoy a pint at the same time.

I'm off to see Jim play again in Bideford tomorrow night at The Joiners, if its not freezation in which case I'll be perched in front of the fire. If you're going I'll say hello. If not maybe see you at a jam? The Champ or has the South Molton do started?
