That Tobacco Brown would be an original standard colour. You're lucky to have found that cover. The Tuner pan and the bridge cover of MK 2 Stringmasters/Deluxe 8's are very hard to find.

Stringmaster that dates as October 1953..?

Oops, you're right.

It was either a typo or my brain temporarily stopped working :)

Your 1953 model is from the first year of production, right?

There are many various reasons for the "Brain Dead" syndrome: too much booze, not enough sex, too much sex not enough booze, et al ad infinitum.
"I know, I was that soldier"
Yes Jeffm, it's from the first year, it's got the "Lollypop" Tuners, chrome covered pickups and NO blend-wheel. As I intend to keep it i've changed the tuners for the more easily replaceable Mk2 ones. I've wired the pickups through individual switches to enable a greater tone range. The 26" scale length sustains FOREVER.

The legs of a Fender Rhodes Piano fit it. But Don't tell the world, or they'll all be gone..

Terry, I will sell it, I have not been able to put a price on it, I don't know enought about Fender Delux 8 steels to do so.
Maybe you could make an offer and see where we go from there.. everything works on the guitar, the case is in good condition although one of the locks needs a new spring but still works . the body as you would expect has dents and a few small holes whar someone tried to put legs on it, saying that if you were to keep it then it would look great if it was restored John
