I'm surprised to hear of quality problems with the Newtones. I've been using the Alohas on my Iseman and an Anderwood for a few years. They do sound a bit thinner when first on but I find that they settle in great and seem to last forever !! Their resonator sets are good too and have that beefed up 3rd string that many better known brands seem to forget about.

The Alohas 15 gauge on the top end is just to my liking. Thinner gauge strings don't have the resistance that I personally like. Too easy to press down with the bar and lacking in tone to my ears.

Still each to their own.

I do hope that Anderwood are still in business somewhere, somehow. They really helped make acoustic lap guitars popular with young UK players and some of the artists that they featured on their youtube channel were really good to listen to.

It's a pity that Picato's string making facility at Treorchy closed. They used to wind my Weissnborn strings with gauges like 0.072 no problem. They bespoke my regular guitar fourth string that I usually broke 10 minutes into my gigs by increasing the core 2 thou and reducing the windings to maintain a 0.036 gauge. I learned from them that wound strings need a hexagonal core so that the outer windings grip onto it. I found the Newtones useless because they had (back in the 90's) a round core that allowed the outer windings unravel too easily.

Once again I find myself angered by the irresponsible quote from you Mr Howlett, All my strings from Newtone are Hex wound strings...You are just being provocative and to use your words on others 'Ill informed' I suggest that you do what you told others to do..."Do some research". So instead of pontificating, check, re-check and check again.Niel Silverman of Newtone Strings is one of the most conciensious string maker I know, and as things stand I wouldn't buy from anyone else. And service to me in France is very quick from him and his team. Get your facts straight please
