I guess the dig...so you can be better informed, is aimed at me...well I stand by my comment. The guitar looks fine and no doubt will sound OK. Not too sure about the trumpet blowing though...if you are so successful why not carry on making Uke's the market is really bouyant and the market for lap steels is rather quiet. I wish you well in your endeavours.

Partly at me too I think with the comment about not wanting to build a guitar on legs.

The lap steel in the picture does look really nice though.

I'd love to see them make Franklin Pedabro copies though. My Hudson is great but the original Franklin design is sorely missed.
I have the blueprints lying about but the only thing I can build is a Yorkshireman's credit score.

If you feel my comments were aimed at you then you are probably right. Problem with forums is the further one gets from the initial posting the less one retains of the original proposition. I am not considering breaking out onto the lap steel market - I'm working towards retirement. I am simply helping out a former student with my design expertise and manufacturing. I thought this place would be a good place to start to excite interest and invite positive comment. I hope it will be.

If you want to check the sources I am using. Refer to Chapters2 and 3 of Duchossoir's book.

Who said anything about veneers?

Sorry, we seem to be crossing wires a bit. I wrongly guessed how the guitar was constructed and I mean no disrespect to you student. But it remains the same, I don't like the woody look.

Pop123 I wouldn't apologise for any assumption...the photo doesn't tell anyone what the construction is and neither does the description of the 'Specialist Luthier'. And to add insult to injury, why join a site to ask questions when he claims he is working from books!!! When I made my steel guitars I used no photos from a book or any particular shaping. It just happened to look like about 3 other Steel Guitars. I had a couple of constructive criticisms and acted on them when I made my last one. I had loads of pro's pick my guitars and lucky me...they liked the tone of all of them. I would have thought a professional luthier wouldn't need to attempt to get brownie points from a Forum, because by the very nature of them, they can be devisive. And lets be honest if his student is in Hawaii...the claimed home of lap steel guitars, why contact a uke maker in UK. There is ample info on sites in US of A and a lot more devisive answers. The guitar looks OK but I agree the different wood tones don't look particularly attractive...not the shaping. But that is a tad picky, it is all down to the tone for me and it could have been a railway sleeper, but if the tone is there, so be it. Time will tell if any of us are right or wrong...I learnt the hard way on here, through frustration about something so simple...now...I question why did I sound off and ruffle a few feathers. My idea is...Make your guitar, make your noise and sit back and as Donny would say have a nice drop of red. Cheers

Maurice, It's flattering to me, to be mistaken for the abstemious Donny, even with his total inclinations for tea!
