Well, just phoned Ed Greenfield at Anderwood and he couldn't be more helpful. He is going to send me an upgraded version of the same guitar to replace the damaged guitar and pick up the P&P.

This is the one I currently have,

And this is the one he's replacing it with,

So I'm a happy customer again. As I said in an earlier post, the customer service from Anderwood has been very good, still think they should be a bit more open about the origin of their instruments but if they are prepared to back up their sales then I guess it is actually better than buying one direct from Aersi in China.

Kudos to Ed Greenfield for dealing with it very quickly and decisively.

Hi Geoff, my son bought one of these last year and I have to say, Chinese or not, it sounds absolutely fantastic for the money and he is delighted with the guitar.

Great to hear the customer service is good.

Doesn't replace quality. Time will tell.

Yeah, I agree with both of you in a sense, sound & playability wise the guitar was excellent value for money, as with all Chinese imports quality control is the issue.

I recently bought a Guild 12 string acoustic which was made in China under Guild quality control. It is exactly the same model as they make in their USA factories except the wood on the Chinese models may be AAB compared to AAA on the USA models.

The guitar came already beautifully set up, plays and sounds like a dream and was at least half the cost of the USA model, (puts on virtual kilt), that's quite a saving ;)

Now Guild have the clout to ensure that the quality will be upheld, they have too much to lose reputation wise. I don't know what sort of control Anderwood will have over their suppliers, it may grow with time as they become a bigger, known supplier. It would be in the long term interests of their suppliers to ensure better quality control at their end.

If Anderwood are prepared to do a bit of quality control their end as they have done for me, then it's a better option than buying cold I guess and may in the longer term up the quality control in China if they are feeding back problems such as mine.

And to be fair my problem might not be being repeated over a large number of these particular imports.

Still think the customer has the right to know the origin of these instruments, and if they can maintain quality at a reasonable price, then why bother to disguise it?

Wow. TRUST is great. You read about stories like that from legendary players in the 50's and insane barters for instruments. I absolutely love it. Hats off.

I have been looking at purchasing a Weissenborn Guitar and came across Andertons. I left it and left it before deciding to take the plunge and purchase a KOA Special Edition. I rang the landline but it was no longer in use. There was also a mobile number which I rang and a guy answered confirming it was Anderwoods. I started to make the order with PayPal details to hand. The guy stopped me mid conversation to inform me that they didnt sell the cheap Chinese imports anymore (His words). He was only taking orders for the custom made guitars from now on. The range and the prices were the same as on the website. When I asked about the faulty landline he said it was disconnected because he had moved premises. The killer question was how long it would take to turn around one of his guitars. 10/12 months was the reply. After I picked my jaw off the floor I bid my farewells. I hope he doesnt go out of business because there are not many luthiers in the UK. Crimson Guitars are about the only other one I know. Can anybody recommend a Weissenborn Guitar maker in the UK.
Thanks
