Lost Highway with Drugstore Cowboys

Postby mick hearn » Mon Jan 07, 2019 9:02 pm

I met Nick Whitfield at the Clacton airshow 4 years ago and we started chatting only to find we were both musicians. Nick is the guitarist and singer with the Drugstore Cowboys They were appearing in my hometown of Sudbury on 6.1.19 and when I said I was going I was requested to take my steel along. I had never played with these before or even knew what they did so I was in cold. It turned out to be a brilliant afternoon and have been invited back. Can't wait.

Great Mick, what a buzz sitting in with the band and making a big contribution to the sound. Bet you're looking forward to the next gig.
Keith.

Yes mate - can't wait. Here is another one. Who needs pedals? That screech at the end was feedback from the National cos it's so microphonic.

Mick, that sounds fantastic! Nick Whitfield is a top bloke, and actually very talented on many different instruments - he has sat in with my rockabilly band on drums a couple of times and did a superb job :D

Your lap steel playing fits the genre perfectly - really lovely to hear! Reminds me of Jeremy Wakefield's playing in some of the more lively Wayne Hancock stuff. If you're out gigging with these guys again soon please let us all know.

Thanks so much for sharing this,

Sid

Hi Simon. Thanks mate. As you say he is a top man and wonderful musician. To get an invite out of the blue was fantastic as you can imagine and I just love going crazy. I have always wanted to do something like that with the lap steel as I am a BR5-49 fan. I am with him again at the same venue on Sunday 28th April. If he gets any more really good paying gigs he has stated he will give a call as it's usually good travel distances.

Ah. Nearly forgot. Also had an offer from another local country band. Don't know what they are like but I will have a look but I know where my heart would be. That's with Nick. The band is so tight it's a lap steelies dream.
