Skype Video Group study

Postby sabatica » Wed Oct 18, 2017 4:19 pm

Hey so a bright idea came to me to offer a Skype video group where we can do some practicing.

My idea is

Triads
Dyads
Sevenths
Extensions
Progressions

Scales( Major modes, Minor modes, Whole tone, diminished and Chromatic Bebop)

What do you guys think?

Maybe we can start with basic technique and music theory and fretboard knowledge, warmups etc.

I cannot understand why the younger guys don't jump on this idea???? ! I wish I had learned this way but for me "old dog new tricks etc." If you start off playing by ear you will get so far then your learning hits a brick wall (in my experience) and you will never play Jazz unless you are really gifted IMHO.
So far, no replies to this generous offer....

I've got to agree wholeheartedly with John, if you can, jump at this opportunity that Sabatica is putting forward. :guitar:
I've ended up going down the 'by ear' route and as much as I love and appreciate jazz, I know I'll never get the chops together to play it :( but, meanwhile, I'll keep sliding on :guitar:

And, Sabatica, I doff my cap to your musical endeavours :guitar: Your enthusiasm, your helpfulness, your website and your chops, are all to be applauded. Great stuff.

I agree with the other comments. I see Stefan's posts on the American Forum and they are always in depth. As a Lap Steel player I'd like to take up his offer, but I think he's far ahead of my capabilities.
Great stuff Stefan.

Hey Guys

You are never too old.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Also no matter how far ahead I may seem to be teaching and sharing ideas and structure with more or less experienced players solidifies one's understanding. Mine included. So its beneficial for all involved.

The Jazz guys did this ALL the time. And Emmons and others who learned by ear also did this the best way the could at the time by sharing a lick. But Music is a language that ALL players can learn. Any age. Just like Spanish/French/Whatever.

Once you learn it and understand it you can relate advanced concepts in a few seconds. I wish especially the older ear players get on board because its equally beneficial for us all.

Plus we will blaze a new trail here in the UK. Teach the rest of those others where the new revival is coming from. LOL.

I'm surprised only one person from the UK has joined me.
