Having fun with lap steel

Postby Will C » Sat Jul 05, 2014 5:24 pm

This guy seems to be a well-kept secret.

He has a technique all his own, but I love what he does with a lap steel. I think this is all done with a simple 8 string C6 tuning, ACEG aceg high to low.

Hi Will,
His name is Larry Hutcherson and he play's not only a mean lap steel, but blues guitar and if my memory serve me riight, he also play's a piano. He plays a Hendrix number his own way and it sounds absolutely fantastic. I found him a couple of years ago and I still marvel at his simplistic playing. Not a finger pick in sight, but it sounds good to me.

Hi Will,
I must agree with you, Larry is a very talented player. I've watched all of his music on youTube and it's inspirational. It's obvious that he enjoys playing and just shows there's no age limit to talent.

Great video.

When I first made my lapper I was using a socket wrench as a steel and my kids enjoyed letting it roll down the slope of the strings. But this guy does it in tune!
