News and views on all things Lap Steel

After what appears as a long time of self imposed exile I have returned to the BSS and the plank section. I am still a lousy picker, but not as lousy as I was. To all those who helped me in the past, thank you. I have tried very hard to put into practice 'That What I Was Told' and some, not all of it has helped, or made my picking any easier on the ear.

Maurice - only lots of woodshedding or practice can improve anyone's playing. Welcome back to the forum - you were missed.

Welcome back Maurice.
I've enjoyed your posts from the wine country and the pics of your lap steel projects. I'm still in the learning stage like yourself and I'm enjoying it.
Keith.

Thanks Ken, Keith, Thanks for the welcome back and the vote of confidence. I've modified the 8 string quite a bit since I last put finger to keyboard and have also built a new cab with a 12 inch speaker. There is a small thumbnail on the home page of
http://www.winerider.com the mods can bee seen at
http://www.winerider.com/guitars.html really just cosmetic but it's an improvement on the look of the plank.

Thank you also Roy, I'ts nice to be back although I do admit to having a visitors view occasionally. I trust you enjoyed your break on the south coast, I can tell you it brought a lot of my memories back to haunt me.
I have to say that my spine is not or has not been responding to treatment...but then it has all been my doing, but, it does give me hell after about an hour at the console steel. Not that's an excuse for my playing or lack of it. It is slowly coming together and playing around with various modifications has in some way helped me make small advances.
I am taking more care in watching pickers of all styles to see if one comes as near to my basic picking...but from my standpoint there is so much variation in picking styles and picks and hand positions, that I have often gone back to the pics. that Tony sent me of fingers and picks, hand position etc. Using picks is driving me nuts but I keep trying or is it that I am very trying.
It's nice to be back even if the same 'old' faces and players are still doing most of the work. It would be nice to see a few of the later members come to the fore and post.
I have managed to get Guitar Pro 6 to work with the 8 string neck, tabs and dots, which in itself is an achievement in itself...I've had the thing for more years than I care to admit, but it has been a god-send in writing and printing sheets.
