DiMarzio Pickup

Sun Dec 07, 2014 9:04 am

Well I did try the experiment with the LipStick style pickup...it didn't work! The sound was awful. So I have fitted a Dimarzio Ionizer 8 DP809 pup from Alan Shelton of Pickup Magnet (www.pickupmagnet.co.uk) First class service and price of P&P to France. None of the ripoff charges, just the postage in fact Alan charge £10 and the actual postage was £10.15. I owe you Alan.
The tone is good...to my ears and the volume is pretty constant across all strings. I had to rout a bigger opening in the plank, but not too difficult and to say I'm pleased is an under statement. :P :P

So before any of you give me too much grief about sound bites etc, I'm working on it!!! I've been using the webcam but that is rubbish, so I have dug out my camera which will do vid. with sound to see if that is any better. If anyone has any tips on recording on a shoestring all comments in easy to read english please...no buzz words or catch phrases, don't forget I'm a dinosaur, so I'm not modern techie.

I've found that a digital camcorder gives acceptable sound quality for sharing online

Hi Flester,

Thanks for the info, at present I'm a little short on the dreaded money to buy anything new, but will bear it in mind when finances improve.

Your camera may be just as good. Go on post a video anyway. Love to see self build projects. Do you self-build wine and bikes too?

Hey Flester,

If I could I'd be able to name my own price on the stuff  But I sure can drink what's on offer :ugeek:

Just watch this space over the next few days and I'll see what I can do with the camera, or you could go to http://www.winerider.com/guitars.html and see a few stills.

What scale length and string gauges on the G tuning ?

Hi Flester,
The "G" tuned LSG is a 580mm Scale length with 21 frets the other two are both 622.5mm scale length and have 24 frets. But in either case plus or minus 1mm on the base side to get best results.

Cheers

Hi Will,
Thanks for adding that info, I was going to mention a Mel Bay book by Stacy Phillips which covers a multitude of info on Hawaiian Steel Guitar.
