Lessons/Tuition

Thu Aug 22, 2013 11:18 am

Hi,

I recently inherited a lapsteel guitar and I am desperate to learn how to play it. I am a novice on the guitar, but have never really dedicated the time that i should to playing.

I'm looking for a tutor in the Manchester area that can help me to brush up on my skills and in particular teach me how to play this wonderful instrument!

Alternatively, if anyone can suggest any tuition books that may be a good starting point, I'd be very appreciative!

Many thanks!

Hi i'm brand new as well and a bit lost. Anyhoo here is what I have gleaned so far.

The Jerry Byrd Instruction Course for Steel guitar is considered the bible of instruction by many but it is not as far as I know available in the UK and is not published in PDF, $105 plus post to uk, too expensive for me.

Georgeboards.com do lessons, but order the DVDs because I found the streaming lessons stream just too slow.

Find a tutor that gets you playing tunes ASAP

C6 tuning is where all the action is, which is not where I want to be, however i'm willing to use C6 till I have the basics learned, then it is of to G or Em and prog rock and blues.

Definitely find a local teacher if you can.

I saw this on Amazon, looks interesting and won't break the bank.

There are a few more on there too.
Plus the guys on here are really helpful.

If you want to get started on C6, Dewitt Scott has a very good starters book, he's a well respected player:

You probably can find it for less on ebay or elsewhere.
