Here's my latest project using some aluminium that was left over from years ago.
In the photo it's in the "pre-dressing" stage - it will get a lot of padding over the scratchy parts very soon. There are a lot of tapped holes in the end plates so that the two guides for the guitar neck and/or head can be fixed at different places to cope with varying widths - you can see how they have a slot to slide on the bolt for fine positioning, and can even turn the opposite way round. At the tail, the two arms also have a number of positions so that the standing rods can bear on the guitar tail, should it be curved or square. The legs were £29 from "Gear4Music" and meant to hold one of the budget 'entry-level' guitars

Good job, Tony. Did you build this with your 10 string plank?

Yes, turned it strings side down onto trestles, so I had had a flat surface to drill onto
But if you mean 'for' the 10 plank, yes; with the parallel sides it'll sit on nicely and so will the Harmony H7 'Roy Smeck' (a long "triangle" type) and my guitar-shaped home-mades. I'm still thinking through the protective issue, cork? foam plastic? or rubber? The plastic idea looks OK, 'cos I've got some that came with electrical goods (not the polystyrene stuff - tougher than that) but maybe it needs covering with felt or similar to finish it off. Whaddya think?

That looks really smart Tony...how heavy is it and are the legs adjustable? I've been using Sheffield folding stands...they're OL but tend to get in the way of volume pedal.

Ha, ha! Yes Tony, the 'in mind' part of that sentence got no further than my mind.
Felt sounds nicer, IMHO, but plastic would be more grippy, methinks. Grippy's a technical term BTW.

Plenty of adhesive felt available on eBay Tony.

I have enclosed a couple of pictures of my lap steel stand where all parts making contact with the instrument are covered with cork.
Nice job, Richard. Is that a Sierra Lap Steel? Looks great.
