John, over 50 views and no comments on your endeavours when restoring this plank, before you despair I'll add one for what it's worth. :o
A nice tone from this guitar and it was well made when new, suiting someone wanting to have different tunings on a twin neck that is not easily available.
Not wanting to be accused of " teaching my grannie how to suck eggs "
I suggest you try an E13th tuning on the front neck as it's the same string positions as C6th without the high G, but 4 frets up.
Rumour has it that someone near you sells E9th SIT strings that would be of the right gauge, so if you talk nice to him and give him a "cuppa" you might even get a discount on the price as well as free delivery!
If you add more posts on rebuilding guitars, I'll keep telling myself I don't need another one, then we can both drink tea and contemplate our futures with steel guitars! :guitar: :guitar:
Robert

"If people bother to read my ravings"

Yep, my life in a nutshell ;)

You're welcome, love these pieces of history. I'm still trying to track down my dad's old Guya 8 String Pedal Steel. No luck so far.

Probably under somebody's bed in Leeds. He sold it to a carpet salesman in the early 80s to fund his Sho-Bud.

Sorry John, not trying to detract from your post.

I could never be a plank player but cannot resist messing with the thing as i do love the sound of it...... please tell, is this a recognizable toon ??

John
You just entered the Hawaiian hall of fame playing that toon and it's recognisable as a version of "Aloha 'Oe ",you could name your version " Alo 'a ee 're it is".
I think you should keep this plank and further you edumeecation in learning how to use slants and find chords up and down the board without the use of pedals and levers.
If your short of room in your humble abode and want to keep this guitar in your " collection " as Steve suggested earlier, all it takes is a couple of big nails and a hammer and hay presto it's on the wall, another advantage of having no pedals! :guitar:
Hope this helps you in your quest to further your talents and is there a prize for guessing the toon?
My details are readily available on request.
Cheers
Robert

Hi John. Nice piece of restoration there mate. Are they the original Cyril Proctor pickups on that machine. Sort of a leatherette covering on them. They consist of a block of wood drilled out to take two round magnets each with a coil wound round them. A metal bar was then placed over the top with screws inserted for the pole pieces. They worked beautifully.
