Blown speakers.

Postby acerod » Thu Jan 24, 2013 8:55 pm

Is anyone else having problems with the new Nashville 212 blowing speakers? I blew one last year and got a replacement from Gerry. Fitted it just before Xmas and did a total of 18 tunes with it. New years eve I was playing with a friends band and in the middle of our 3rd song Nothing! Luckily I had the Vegas in the van and was able to carry on. :x :? BTW My Master is set around 6 and Channel between 2 and 3.

Roy should that read 112? Did you contact Gerry to tell him about new speaker as it is probably under guarantee? You could contact Peavey at Corby for advice, and I would have amp checked out by any good amp tech in your area,Have not heard of any problem with 112's blowing speakers.

Yes Malcolm, 112, slip of the mind.I sent Jerry an email about 2 weeks ago but have had no reply yet. I did contact Peavey the last time as I couldn't get the old speaker out.Turned out it was put in while the paint was still wet. When I do get a reply from Gerry I probably will get it checked out as you suggest. I had my old Nashvlle for about 10years which I bought from Gerry Snr back in the 80s and as far as I know it's still going strong. I can't understand it as I never drive my amps hard. Anyway thanks for the reply.

Well I certainly didn't expect to be inundated with so few replies. Thank you all very much.

Roy, just a thought, have you connected speaker to another amp to check it? If you have already done this and it doesn't work. my thoughts are that something is very wrong with amp and I would have it checked out before damaging any other speaker in it.

18 tunes, fitted just a few weeks ago?

Keep phoning all concerned, including PV. Keep record of all your calls etc. that needs to be fixed, warranty too..

I suspect an issue with amp if it's really a speaker gone. Gone in what way? Open circuit on the coil?
If you was told it was a speaker, bought it, replaced it, and it's gone, it's warranty...
If so, that's gotta be an amp fault surely? I'm not really helping here with advice, but don't sit on it,
Keep chasing. Youve got to get this repaired/replaced. Let us all know what it was.

Never heard if it in a steel combo, but I have heard of PA amps failing damaging all PA speakers.

I would be furious.. Imagine if that was your only amp.

I drove hundreds of miles to get a PA cab rattle fixed, (not PV), knocked on factory door, Carried it in and waited until it could be checked.

I was originally told to tighten everything etc etc, but it turned out to be a speaker, replaced, free, out of guarantee too.

First of all Malcolm, I did check the first speaker with the Vegas amp and that was definitely gone. I haven't checked this one yet but presume it's the same. Second Dave, I've been in contact with Gerry who got on to Peavey in Corby and they've said to return the amp to them to be checked out. Simple if I lived in the UK but not so easy from Ireland. I thought at first when the first one went it was a power surge but the second time was a completely different venue and I was plugged into an anti-surge board .Since the Vegas worked without a hitch in both venues I've ruled that out. Thanks to both of you for your responses and I'll keep you posted.

Roy ask Pv if they have an approved repair man in Ireland, failing that it might be worth speaking to who ever does repairs in your area just to get an opinion and likely cost of a repair, may work out cheaper than shipping to Corby.Other suggestion is , do you know anyone who is coming over to the mainland who might be able to bring it over for you.

Roy, I would have given some feedback to your post but I don`t use a pv and really had no experience with a 112 ..... Best advice I could give is go for a Roland cube 80 or 80XL you will be amazed at what this little amp can do...... I have changed speakers in two of my cubes but only out of prefferance as I love my JBL and Altec....
Best thing about the cube is the price... they sell for next to nothing>>>>
