Wae an “Ode Tae a steel”

O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us
tae hit w’rang notes an’ nae’bdy hear us
It wad frae monie a blunder free us,
distress o’ mind would surely lea’e us

Tae’ play yon steel wae’ nae regret,
we’ve a’ tried hard but huv’ny yet
perhaps wae’ grace that day wu’d come
alas till then ma notes t’wang bum!

I was playing a show the other night (fiddle not steel) and the singer asked if anyone had been learning any Scottish words during their time in Scotland.

If you went tae the top o’ sheet
just read it an’ yer answer meet
whit’s mentioned there should fill yer quest
to miss bum notes we dae oor best
it’s no yer strings that are tae blame
‘cos if it was I’d feel nae shame
it’s fumbling fingers in wrang space,
wae missing notes we’ll no replace

If this rhyme applies tae you
Bum notes inc, tell please do
but chose yer words an’ make them wise,
it always pays to advertise!
