On and off for many years I've thought of taking up the pedal steel, going back to my early 20's when I was in an Alternative Country band.
I've lurked on here for a long time. As you can tell from my joining date!
However it's an expensive entry into the club matched with the difficulty of sourcing a pedal steel it's mostly been a day dream.
In the passed few weeks I've been thinking about it again, i don't know what caused the urge to come back, but now it's different, there is a Zum Encore for sale about and hour and a half away from me, so it's put up or shut up time.

Is this the universe telling me to take the leap, or lockdown and depression looking for some escapism who knows?

I'm not sure what the point of the post is, I doubt anyone here is going to try and dissuade me, but a reality check wouldn't be a bad thing. I do understand it is the advanced calculus of instruments and whilst my music theory knowledge is fairly good, I would expect my mind to get twisted.

I was extremely fortunate to start at the age I did because of family influence but I know plenty of lads who have started in their 20s and 30s in the UK who have gone on to be great players on the scene.

Don't hesitate if it is what you want. You'll never lose money on a pedal steel if you find it isn't for you. As long as you buy the right one anyway. The Zum is definitely a good option.

I'm sure if you put the hours in you will become a great player.

If you've got the lump; Jump!
Once you get your mitts on the steel, you will appreciate the work that's gone into the construction, justifies the seemingly high cost. I think only the Concert Harp is more complex.

If you've got the cash; Splash!
Otherwise, you're just going to squander your hard earned on loose women, drugs and booze.......mmmn, I think I'm beginning to reconsider

I already fit all 3 into my practice schedule. It's doable.

I missed out on it. Already sold.
Well I'll keep looking now this one really jump started my interest again.
