I don’t suppose there are many of you much interested in Country music but BBC4 is currently showing 'Country Music by Ken Burns' which is pretty good so far. Lots of interesting history for those curious about this niche music form. Or perhaps stick to Grime like everyone else......
Cheers

Hi Calum, I watched the first episode last night and it was very interesting indeed. I would also recommend, for Country music enthusiasts, the podcast 'Cocaine and Rhinestones,' which I found incredibly compelling listening. There is an episode almost entirely dedicated to Ralph Mooney which had some great stuff in it.

Hi Simon
Thanks for that, I’ll check it out. Episode 2 is treat. A guy that hangs about on stage making noises? Love it. Seems Bob Willis was the Bez of his day.
Cheers

The latest episode has a lot about Hank Williams which was very interesting. Also it turns out the UK release has been edited by about half an hour per episode so there’s a lot more to see if we can get hold of the US version. Should be easy enough in our corrupt and decaying times......
Cheers

Yep, a fantastic series, strange why they edited it down for the beeb, though. I've watched a few of Ken Burns' documentaries and they're always riveting; The Civil War, Jazz, Vietnam, 2nd World War. He uses still photos to great effect and this one has some terrific images. Hopefully the full blown version will end up on Netflix

Watching the Hank Williams episode brought to mind a low budget film from the 80s called 'Hank William: The Show He Never Gave'. This is not like the commercial films about him and only had limited release. If you haven't seen it, check it out, it is worth a view.
