Likes and dislikes

This is where you can rest a while and discuss anything - doesn't have to be steel guitar related!

Steve,
Please do'nt think I am bullying You ;) One thing I cannot do is fight and the second thing I (now)cannot do is run so I try to come across as a nice guy.
Anyway Your point on steel guitar instrumentals,I hope You do'nt mind My need for clarification.I notice You mention an album with backing tracks,I agree that it could be boring.I would ask If You also mean a studio album with "live"musicians would not be Your best listening choice either.
I have a great many well produced albums by some of the greatest players ever,I find that if the music is well produced, in that, the steel takes the lead part(as a voice might do)and the other instruments take a "break, solo or ride whatever You may call it,the track is indeed very pleasant.
I am a steel freak,I could probably listen to steel guitar for a few hours on end but I do'nt expect everyone to be like Me.
So far I just about agree with everyone's likes and dislikes.
Thanks for posting.
I enjoy classical music very much but am no expert,I wish I could remember the composer and work which had the four minute silence,I could listen to that over and over  Better than Rap?
best regards

Hi Billy,

How dare you!

Yeah I'm just not into steel instrumental stuff in general, be it live or with tracks. Don't get me wrong I do watch and enjoy the 'usual suspects' on YouTube, some of whom are members of this forum, all far better players than I will ever be. But I watch it as a steel player hoping to pick up some tips and learn something.

I wouldn't stick a CD of steel guitar instrumentals on in the car. Nothing wrong with it, and probably my loss. It's just not my thing. ;)

Classical music - I'm afraid I don't know too much about it either but John Cage wrote the four minute silence (Four minutes, thirty-three seconds). I cheated and looked it up! :)

Hi Billy
Maybe the silent piece you are thinking of is John Cage '4.33'.
I wish he'd write for a lot of singers I could name.
I actually went up to a solo singer who was wailing away with backing tracks, holding a guitar he couldn't play, and wearing a hat that shaded half the stage and asked him if he could play anything by John Cage. He shook his head and carried on hhhhwell'ing and hhhhyeeeeha'rrrrring.

Good one Barry
I would think it would be very difficult to play the John cage piece,Your timing would have to be perfect, not to mention the pitch.
