Why do PSGs sound different to one another?

I don't want to start WW3 here, and as a relatively new, older player, I am not speaking from experience, but surely scale length must be a factor in a steel's tone? One for the physicists?

Just a thought as regards scale length and tone which, although at one remove from steel guitars, is probably relevant. Over the years (like everybody else on the Forum) I've played and heard any number of guitars and it always seemed to me (and some mates) that Les Paul guitars (with a shorter scale length) never sounded as good playing open chords as, for example, Telecasters or Stratocasters. Having said that short scale Jaguars still sounded like Fenders - presumably owing to the electronics - not forgetting any amp settings. Just a thought anyway.
