Who Would Be Your Desert Island Steel Player......and why?

This is where you can rest a while and discuss anything - doesn't have to be steel guitar related!

Mine would have to be John Hughey and Mike Johnson, my joint favourites, both fantastic players and after having met them both at Dallas Show Quite a few times, I can honestly say both are the friendliest most modest guys you could ever meet.

C'mon John, there's solar panels atop the coconut trees, supplying plenty enough power for Jerry Byrd's amp, and for the cooler, where the two grass skirted babes get my beer from.
Get with the program.

My choice would be John Hughey I met him on two occasions in the USA. One occasion was at a BBQ in Atlanta at an informal steel guitar meeting also attended by several other well known steel players. I was so taken by his humility he left a big impression on me, such a quite and gentle man and a truly outstanding player.

Thought I could drop another tremendous Hawaiian player in this old thread - Jeff Au Hoy. If you haven't heard him before here's a clip worth a listen. Spot on intonation and effortless harmonics.
