define a band? well when my dad started played in the early 50s, he played in what was known as a band, and there were 18 of them, in the late 50s/early 60s groups were the "new thing" not considered as bands, but then some groups added a small brass section, were then known as showbands, then groups became known as bands, then with the advent of drum machines, sequencers and backing tracks, you end up with a "one man band" and of course one man is not a band, its just a distortion of language, i am playing with a six piece, now that is a band, not some singer, with his downloaded karaoke backing tracks, sadly though, he is earning a lot more at music than any of us "real musicians"
