Our Own Radion Station

Postby mick hearn » Wed Jan 06, 2021 10:49 am

Well we have gone and done it. My daughter Kay and I have our very own internet radio station. One of the advantages of Covid and needed the music. We were associated with Cherokee Nation Radio in the states but were not impressed so decided to give it a go. What we were both impressed with was the standard of the music coming from the independent record labels and discovering that a lot of them have used top flight session musicians such as Doug Jernigan, Buddy Emmons and Mike Johnson on steel. Also the the response from artists and record labels has to be seen to be believed. Also other DJ's have offered to come on board. A mixture of mainstream and independent music on the rotation and time slots featuring the different labels. I host a Western Swing Show and its great fun although I must move my computer tower as its close to the mic and its noisy.

Anyway if you want to hear some great country music look for FRH Radio transmitted by Live365 so search there or Radio Box. There is a link on our Facebook page and we also have a web page.

While you are at it then keep and ear out for Orange Blossom Special by Brett Raper. This has to be the best version I have ever heard. Brett told me that on the day of recording his regular steel player was ill and he was introduced to Doug Jernigan. You can only imagine the result. Brilliant.

You WILL hear plenty of good steel. We are supporting the independent artists but there is mainstream and we will be having a DJ coming on board who will feature a "Country Classics" show.

As i said previously - You will not believe the quality of this music.

JD. I hope you managed to clear your phone. As far as phones are concerned the best bet is to look for the Live365 app in your phones app store. Once loaded search for FRH Radio.

I had a thought having listened to the various shows especially when JD called me. He tuned in right in the middle of a section that we allocated to a particular label and the music on this was a lot heavier than some of us would expect. I for example do a Western Swing show so this would suit some but not all. We aim to have something of interest to all listeners which means there will be something you don't like and something you do. We are currently working on a country classics show. We are on Facebook where we do a weekly list of the artists appearing in the various shows. The main shows are broadcast on Saturdays and are then repeated daily but at different times to allow for a worldwide audience.

Success. The swing show is a great favourite with the artists in Texas and audience as well. Some great steel playing in there. I think JD went in at the wrong time cos it was heavy stuff. Have a look at our web page on www.frhradio.uk and see that we can be picked up on other platforms including Alexa, Radio Box and Streema.

Don't know how the hell I did it. Was nominated for International DJ of the year with the International Singer Songwriter Association and am now a finalist. Results in August.

9am to 11am Saturday mornings. The Indie Show From Kay Cook-Abbott. A great way to spend a Saturday morning and some terrific independent music.
