Stereo?

Hi everyone...just a wee question about amplification..maybe some of you sound engineers out there can help out.

So I have been told before that stereo is the way to go and I now want to try it out..

Does this sound right?

Mono cable from steel to Pedal

two mono cables from pedal to Telonics Pre-1000 L + R input

two mono cables from Telonics main out to rack mounted stereo amp

two mono cables to 2 x 15" Cabinets.

My other question is should I be running the amps flat out i.e. infinity and use the Telonics to control signal?

Hi Davy, I'm using Fender Acoustasonic 150 which is a stereo amp. The set up is :
Mono lead out of the guitar to the in socket in the volume pedal.
2 Mono leads out of the pedal into the left & right sockets on the amp. Simples.
You now have at you fingertips all the tone controls and effects on the amp.
The world is your oyster, lobster, clappiedoo, or whatever else is out there.

That setup sounds right, Davie.
I'd probably run the power amp about 3/4's (quarter past), maybe less, so the Telonics is getting a run out. That's going to be a big sound, and very pleasant to be sitting amongst.

This goes back to me getting my ear bent by Basil and yourself (Danny) about stereo signals..lol...I believe Mark Dunn explained this on a post about the Telonics Pre-1000 too but I admittedly had my dumb head in the sand lol...Not only do I have the gear, but the cabs are a lovely tweed...matching of course, although one has a Telonics 15 and one has a BW 1504 from my nashville 1000 (which has another Telonics 15" so might swap out) ...is this making sense...? All because the reverb in the Telonics Pre 1000 "becomes" stereo...lol I think?

Yes Davie, unless there's some sort of stereo device which gives a stereo effect then you are really just playing in mono at double the power. So the reverb in your preamp should give you that if it has a stereo output.

I used a stereo set up for a while and used a chorus with a stereo output to give a stereo effect. I had the chorus set at a minimum depth setting and on a slowish modulation. The resulting sound "swirled" between the two speakers, keeping the effect depth to a minimum made it a very subtle effect but it gave a bit of stereo movement and depth. Willie was the only bod who noticed it at Gartcosh, it was very subtle. Your reverb should give you stereo depth.

Ken...I have only used one of the Tweed cabs live so far...before the dreaded lurgy came about. I`m hoping to give the whole rig some welly either at Gartcosh or a live gig (I live in hope lol). I can just hear the other band members now "Why have you got two amps? Youre gonna be too loud" etc etc....not even gonna even try to explain they are only speakers haha
