We are supposedly experiencing our worst winter since winter began.
Some of our Younger readers may think so but I can remember two worse winters.before global warming was an issue
Think back guys and tell me the two worst winters You have seen

Billy - 1963 for us southern softy's was a very bad year. Winter started on Boxing Day and the freeze lasted 3 and a half months. I was a schoolboy of 14 at the time - seemed like Spring would never happen.

The winter of '47. The snow came up to the TOP of our door and the 4 foot+ deep drifts stayed for weeks. The transport system in the Midlands ground to a halt. I don't remember much of it except the length of time the snow stayed and the depth of it. It was that following summer that I contracted Poliomyelitis (bulbospinal polio) along with thousands others around Europe..

I don't remember or know much about the subsequent 5 winters, I was in the Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Then followed 5 years in an 'Iron Lung" and then physiotherapy. The doctors said I'd never walk again !! Thanks to grit determination and the promise of a guitar, I worked at it that hard that now I'm ambidextrous, and I can kick ass with either foot.
