Postal Shocker

Having sold an item to a Gent in Belgium I went to the local Post Office to send the package.
The lady assistant informed Me that since it was over 2 Kilos(it was 2.5 Kilos) It would be about £28 and would take a month to reach it's destination.
After a sharp intake of breath I asked Her if the goods were being hand carried by a postie on foot.
They say the post office is losing money!!! I would say more like losing customers.

You are right Billy ,our postal bill goes up nearly every newsletter issue. The problem is we cannot keep raising our membership fees or we will not have any members left and that means after 32 years we might have to wrap up the society.

Billy I just found the invoice for sending Eddy the Session 400 amp head in May...I was £30.88 from parcel2go.com and the pick up was from DHL fully insured and trackable all the way door to door.

Roy as a matter of interest how many newsletters do you put out at each issue?

I have set up delivery thru' parcels2 go. I am awaiting their pick up as I write. It cost £28.00

Another service worth checking out is http://www.ecoparcel.net . I've used them a couple of times and they have worked out considerably cheaper than any other service I could find. I have no idea how they manage to do this, but they do.

Yes - that can sometimes happen and it does seem to be a bit of a variable feast with these guys. I think it rather depends on what deals they have going, at any specific moment, with the courier companies. I suppose you have to make a trade-off between getting it quickly and saving a lot of money.

Living in the sticks, with only one postal delivery a week, I have learned to worry less about how long something takes to arrive and more about how much it costs to get it here. Postal charges have gone through the roof in many countries and I have things couriered most of the time these days, it frequently works out cheaper and quicker.
