American Epic on BBC iPlayer

Sun Jun 11, 2017 10:06 am

Just a heads up for a tremendous 4 part series on the Beeb,"American Epic". Featuring, amongst many others, the story of Joseph Kekuku. A gentleman that we on this forum are much beholden to. For it was he, in the year of 1989, who came up with the notion of playing guitar with a steel :guitar:

If you have an interest in roots music, vintage recording techniques and a fair bit of social history, you will lap this up :guitar:

Danny
Thanks for the "heads up" but shouldn't that be 1889 ... ;)

Oooops
Sorry chaps  Whit a riddy!

Yes, indeed, I wrongly stuck a hundred years on young Joe's discovery, that made him 115 years old when he was walking home from school with his guitar and happened upon 'that' bolt. Although that scenario would've been even more impressive

I'm halfway through part 4, The Sessions, and there's a great Hawaiian band with two lap steels, one of which looks like an old Rickenbacker Frying Pan....lovely :guitar:

This is mainly a heads up for some of the Gartcosh fraternity, who I know are Merle nuts ;)
I finally managed to catch the end of part 4 of this series :guitar: What a touching experience it was. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard perform 2 songs....beautiful. This must've been recorded not too long before Merle passed away. Very poignant indeed. Well worth a look :guitar:
