A Toast To The Lassies

Thu Jun 09, 2016 9:40 am

It just dawned on me, as I typed the words 'true gentlemen' in another thread, that apart from the mighty Sara Jory, Cindy Cashdollar and the adventurous Susan Alcorn, I'm completely ignorant of Lady Pickers :o

Any enlightenment would be appreciated :)

My favourite lady steel player is Barbara Mandrell. Barbara was taught by Norm Hamlet, and she's a mean pick blocker. No face pulling or gurning, she just gets on with it. Dig that right hand technique, and on C6 no less! Most ladies steer well clear of that back neck. :D

Donna Hammitt plays great too.

Melinda Rózsahegyi is a name that many won't have heard of but she can pick.

Does Donna Hammitt still play? She's good. I've only ever seen Barbara Mandrell play Steel Guitar Rag, anyone got anything else?

Here is another Mandrell clip Donny. It's a bit of Sleep Walk this time.

I thought Ken might come through with some info :) thanks for the pointers. Great playing from all three ladies, I hadn't heard of any of them. Some lovely moves in Donna's tune, and I notice she plays a Franklin. You don't see too many of them about. And Melinda.....picking out of Hungary :o Does that make it Country & Eastern

Great to see and hear the gal's quality playing. 'Mon the Lassies :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

And of course, way back, you had people like Marion Hall, who used to play a Bigsby in the Town Hall Party shows.
