I've always loved this song and my memories of that time ........... I guess it may hold some for others here too!

I recall a couple of curly perms (not mine I hasten to add) the experience of silk and the heady smell of incense smouldering away in the background! ....

You may not know this Bob, but there is another Mr Brooker. Ironically Gary's father, Harry Brooker, was a prominent steel guitarist in the UK in the 40's and 50's.

My mentor Kealoha Life knew Harry very well, and described him as being an outstanding stylist of Hawaiian steel guitar. There is a clip below featuring Harry on what sounds like a resonator guitar, and you can hear his excellent intonation and smooth pick blocking.

The more I watch this the better it gets! The talent and accomplishment of all is outstanding! The song so brings out the emotion of the strings and can you believe that single notes on that Hammond can balance them, but they do, then with the drummer so in the pocket come the horns with such passion and latterly those vocals, wow, as it builds at the end. ..............

Simply outstanding!..............Such a powerful backing to a ever powerful delivery from Gary ................... Fabulous!

Now here’s a question I bet Basil can answer….Wikipedia states Harry played Pedal Steel but I thought he predominately played Hawaiian and non Pedal Guitar?

Outstanding version of a classic song. I remember all the "incense" smells sitting around listening to songs of this era. For me though the strongest memory it brings back is ice skating at Kirkcaldy Ice Rink in the 1960's. It's where I first heard many of the classic songs of this time such as Strawberry Fields, Nights in White Satin etc.

This certainly is an excellently orchestrated version of this classic, but why is it violin sections always look like they've been press ganged.
It was also a pleasant surprise to see a couple of old acquaintances, I've guzzled a good quantity of beer, in the company of Mark, the drummer and Josh on the Hammond, in another life.
Also, enjoyed the Hawaiian sound of Harry Brooker.
