This is where you can rest a while and discuss anything - doesn't have to be steel guitar related!

I do not know if this is the right forum for this but there is no pedal builders site.
I have been trawling through the pedal guitar sites and came across the drawings for a pull-release mechanism. I can understand most of the workings but there seem to be no tension springs on the fingers, does it simply rely on the tension from the strings to return to the open position.

Yes

Does this not give a relatively slow return to the open position after the string has been pulled up to a high note?

No different than an all-pull or a push-pull.
The only time that there could be a slow return, on any mechanism, would be if there were helper springs on the raises.

The original Denley, Ormston & Rotosound guitars were pull release if my memory serves me correctly. They had great tonal qualities despite their mechanical shortcomings.
