People talking the forum down

Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:25 pm

 I get mad when people diss the site go off in a huff or complain about us all not posting enough or the right things not being talked about.......... or sensibilities being offended cos someone did`ent use enough smilies :) :) :)
The way I see it we are all grown ups here, and we have a great resource here that is a thousand times better than the site we had previously!! We all have busy lives cannot all live on here 24/7 but every now and then we get a gem of information and I reckon that makes it all worthwhile plus the help the newbies get here is gold dust....for them ....Funny thing is , if you remember back to the old site... all we had to bitch about was how bad it was!! Now look what we have :) :) :)
END OF RANT.......
Very pleased to announce that due to some kind enthusiast`s that value my Steelies Meeting.... Namely.
Shaun Winning,
Les Wright,
Mark Dunn,
My Daughter Rebecca,
Henry Senior,
Neil ????
and Will Cowell, I now have enough in donations to take up the shortfall in the new price they are charging for the hall.
Thank You guy`s You have given Apathy a kick up the arse......did I say arse? oops sorry  hope its ok...

I agree with the "good rant" John.
Let's see how many new members post some interesting topics.
I hasten to add that I may have been misread in one of My recent posts when I said that there was very little interesting subjects coming up,as You well know I have posted a fair few questions in order to stir up some informed replies,I can almost tell who will respond before I enter My post.
There are three players in Scotland who post regularly,I know of several others in My homeland who do'nt bother at all,
England has many great players who do not post here some of them are members too.I ask Myself Why. I also ask the watching members WHY?
We are getting close to 400 members and the bulk of our new posts are items for sale and tell us where You are playing,I am actually repeating the words of another member here. There is nothing wrong with posting in these sections but as far as discussion goes there is almost nil so I(dare I say, We) tend to browse the new posts and find very little to comment on so We maintain a Cyber silence and drift off.
I am not trying to talk bad of the Forum but I am talking of the apathy which exists with regard to contributing,
Best regards to all
Billy

Billy, Tis one of the mysteries of the universe as to why people don`t post... but I know lots that don`t but still take a great interest in what`s going on here....... I guess we all have such busy lives.... but if a question gets asked... it mostly does get answered though.
Anyway, putting aside my out of charactor rant>>>>>> What about the other side of my post......That shows the guys are out there... and will pull together when needed :) :) I reckon that bit alone was worth the read :0

John, Re- People talking down the forum- I'm assuming that I can count myself as one of them, after all I have been vitriolic in my wish to see something of interest from the ever growing membership. OK, it would seem I am in a very small minority and have decided best leave that particular matter at that, or in my usual frank style- 'I cant be arsed anymore'
However! in my defence let me place on record that- I have never disrespected the site. I have never left the site in a huff. ( I have been absent of late for reasons that will remain personal)
Admittedly- I have! mentioned (on quite a few ocasions  ) how strange it is that guys can find time to advertise themselves, items, festivals, get togethers but cant be arsed adding anything else to the site, a reasonable question I would have thought, especially when the site goes deathly quiet for weeks on end. Im not on my own, you yourself have mentioned lack of response to your posts in the past. (obviously! when concerning your own frustrations comments like that don't get you mad) ;)
I have in the past started topics, always added/joined in with posts of interest, certainly shown encouragement for the newer players/members, have tried to help both online off line and in private whenever I felt I could, always treated the many older player/members with respect, always prepared to aknowledge their contributions to British steel playing.

My posts on the apathy subject (although of a direct nature) have never been aimed at individuals and certainly never meant to get folks mad, I openly opologise if they have. My views stem from a long standing passion for all things steel guitar, over 40years of involvement and a wish to see pedal steel guitar develop in the UK through the medium of our BSS website.

I shall remain a member of the BSS site for as long as I can find something of interest to a British steel player, I still maintain that that is the ethos behind the site, however I do aknowledge that the site will go in the direction the members take it.
Dave.
