I did some tracks for a band recently and never felt happy with the mix and tone through the cans.
I’m doing another one soon, and I’m thinking of asking if we can maybe try it without any headphones at all. Set up the steel in the control room, put an amp next to me with my own normal effects levels, and balance it acoustically against the main playback monitors to do the takes, but send a separate out from the volume pedal to an isolated dry amp in the live room so they can add their own delay/reverb later.
What’s the best method you’ve found?
