Ten from Twelve Hundred

Postby Admin » Sun Aug 18, 2019 5:26 pm

I chose membership as the topic here. Could be right could be wrong!

Regardless!

I would like to sincerely thank the 'Ten Members' who have contributed when prompted by Marc to contribute to the forum costs.

I have been very busy lately but have now thanked each individually member as is my normal procedure, thanks guys you are all diamonds and are the core who keep this all going!

As for my good buddy Marc and I... we are just the vehicle here to the online version of Uncle Roy's baby but like all other moving things we need a little lubrication now and then!

As for Roy, I frankly don't know how he does it.... That newsletter is such an immense amount of work and then there are all the postage costs!! You guys have simply now idea what goes into the support of this instrument we call our 'pedal steel guitar'

I guess I better quit now! Is the point made?

Bob, not very often I an stuck for words but that beggers belief!!! All everyone gets from this forum and that's the best you can do!!!??? If a few of you made a standing order of just 2 quid a month that would amount to 24 quid by the end of the year and our forum would be secure is that so hard......
I would suggest future members get asked when they join if they are prepared to contribute in a small way and make it a condition for membership.

Well said JD, we owe this forum to Bob and Marc. If it wasn't for these guys I am afraid it wouldn't happen. The BSS newsletter is finance by a paid up membership which in fact barely pays now days for the printing etc of 4 newsletters per year. So if it wasn't for one man and handful of forum members sadly it would not be here. So my advice would be if you value this site please help pay for it.
Now I will shut my gob

I am more than happy to contribute and indeed will do so on the link provided. Previously I had been under the misapprehension that the annual BSS membership also paid for the forum upkeep (yes I have no idea of the cost of things). Just an idea but would it be worth raising the annual membership to include access to the forum ? That way everyone contributes ?
Cheers

Paul, many thanks for your comments but many of the forum members are not paid up members for newsletter so I feel it's not fair to increase the membership fees when I feel forum only members should pay a little to keep the forum running.

The forum is publicly accessible and membership (which is free) is only required to post / send PMs etc. Donations, however small, are always welcome - Roy posted the link above but it is also at the top and bottom of every single page.

BSS membership, which Uncle Roy runs separately from the forum, is separate and is for printed newsletters sent out to you.

On other forums I moderate, there are "supporters only" sections where supporters (who pay £1 per month via PayPal) have their own place to post things away from the public (and Google's) eye - stuff that's a bit more "risqué", or reports on bad client experiences etc...think somewhere to go and share an experience you've had with a venue / band that you don't want to post publicly.

Another one limits the ability to sell items without an active supporter's subscription.

Just putting it out there, thinking aloud!

In response to JD's reminder a couple of weeks back I went to make a contribution (yes, sadly my first) but bottled out about halfway through as I was worried about all the personal details which had to be provided. Please do not take this as a criticism of the way this is set up , more as a measure of my own unease and paranoia about doing this kind of thing online. Is there a way to send a cheque and to whom should it be sent, or another way to set up a standing order? Thanks to you guys for running this forum and on what I didn't realise was such a frighteningly tight budget. Cheers, Andy.

How about a £2 contribution to put something on the For Sale page?
Every now and again there could be a published "outing", or reminder to people who consistently advertise and don't contribute.
