New amp from Peavey

Peavey have a new amp coming out at Dallas show, thought some of you guys might be interested.No price announced yet, or whether it will be available in UK.

Will have to have a nose (and a weigh) of this amp when I see it. Hope they have got shot of paramid EQ, and replaced it with standard bass, middle, treble and presence controls. Not that I am interested in buying one - got 9 Peaveys in the garage.

Ken, from looking at pics and specs it appears to have usual shift control as per 400 and 112. The front Panel appears to have identical layout to the Robert Randoph one (it comes as head and cab) makes me wonder if the 115 is just combo version of that.Be interesting to see if it is, or if it has beenvoiced more in the traditional sound, no prices quoted yet despite being in Peavey catalogue (page 92) and no mention if it will be available in UK/Europe.Personally I am more interested in the Quilter Pro Block 400 or Steelaire Head.

Buck Reid has been assisting Peavey with feedback on the amp as he is an endorsee. I will drop him a line to get his thoughts, although he may not be happy about me publishing them. My first thought is that by using the mid heavy Black Widow speaker and the paramid system, most players will be spending their time trying to dial out that nasally mid honk. I would imagine that if the amp is made available over here (and I have my doubts) then it will undercut the price of the Telonics TCA500 by quite a distance. Not that it would influence me as I would rather pay the difference and get the more smoother tone of the Telonics. However, without trying one I might be wildly wrong. I will definitely be visiting the Peavey room in the Sheraton at Dallas, and have a real close look. One bummer at the moment is that the pound/dollar rate is appalling at the moment, so that will affect all imports for the foreseeable future. Until the vote on the EU is sorted out in June, I can't see the exchange rate improving whatsoever. In fact I reckon it will get a lot worse.

(Thank goodness I have a few dollars left over from the year before last which I bought at $1.90).

Ken, saw a bit in US forum, where Mike Brown was saying that although the RR and the 115 look identical, they sound totally different, he said RR had the EQ tweaked to his own personal taste.I would imagine they will be quite pricey, as the 112 was over $800 now.I am going to take a look at the Quilter range, the Steelaire head and their new Pro Block 200, they are reasonably priced, but will reserve judgement till I actually hear them.Much as Telonics are great sounding amps, there is just no way I could afford one, at over two grand I seriously believe they are out of the price range of most of us.Anything I might buy will have to sound good, as I still recon my MB200 sounds great and a very very good price, plus light.

Malcolm, I imported a Quilter Steelaire for a customer in Northern Ireland. He was playing a Peavey NV 112.
He is so happy with the Quilter, that the NV 112 is up for sale. The European dealer for Quilter is in Denmark.
Thats where I bought it. Its a class amp, and so light. See you in a couple of days. Got a couple of Red-Backs
for you.

Ted, I've had to cancel off, got a sinus infection which means I can't fly in case of damage to ears or severe earache, not what you want on a ten hour flight.Had spoken to Chris Park of Steelaire and was going to try out the Steelaire head at Dallas,apparently the ones in states require a mod for UK, but in mean time saw they had brought out Pro Block 200, and it was getting good write ups as well.Have asked Mr Bling to check them out for me, if you and Ivor could check them out and give opinion I would be most obliged.My Daughter is going to LA in April and there is possibility she could bring me one back then , Steelaire head is only 7lbs and Pro Block 200 is only about 4lbs, and I think Chris would arrange a good deal.
