"We know Buddy Emmons plays a brilliant version of Danny Boy, but does anyone, besides me, know where and how the song evolved."

Hi Slim, the tune was brought to England from the USA by the sister of the man who wrote the words .The tune went to the US with the Irish during the famine.. .it a long and complex story.

Well done John, I have the story here, as to why he put the words to the music which is of course, Londonderry Ayre, while the words are Danny Boy.
Also, he wrote many other songs in'c, Roses Of Picardy, and his first name was Fred, and he lived in Bristol.

Danny Boy was written by a man who lived down here in the West Country, either Clevedon or Portishead.
