This is for steel guitar news and announcements.

Just been thinking, (doesn't happen often!) Are there any other communities who organise regular meetings such as ours?
I realise there are band practice events and the likes for Silver, Brass, Pipe, Jazz guitar and etc. But I just wonder if there are any others who meet for the appreciation and joy of the instrument (Not Just for The Genre)
It has been said many a time and oft that we are a particular breed and my fear is as time marches on such events will evaporate due to our increasing years and health issues.
We see some young blood from time to time but the young guys are taken up with their gigs and (I guess as we all did in our day) we see no need to attend such events, perhaps it's a maturity thing and interest will kick in, in the due course of time but I just wonder who will keep the flag flying.
I don't want this to sound like a depressing post (on the contrary) but we have lost so many in recent times that it (makes you think) Jimmy Martin, Spencer Scott, Aidan Cunningham, John Roche, Dave Nutt, our enthusiast Reg Sutherland to name a few and then the ill health surrounding many, JD, Dave Kirk, Roy & Silvie, Ron & Margaret Mc, Donny & Barbara, the list could go on!
So where are the young guys? Let's see you give us a visit (even now and then) You are there somewhere in cyberspace jumping in and out the forum silently! Tim Davidson, Stuart Conway, Connor Smith, Ian Sloan, Adam Bulley, (spelling?) Simon Lawrie etc!
If this resource is to go on it needs the young blood, we all have a passion to a greater or lesser degree but for now at least it's the older guys who have the commitment! Can that change! I hope so!!

Way to go Bob put a positive twist on it we could do with more steelie meetings we should all have a local one within a reasonable travel distance to keep us alive and run by the young blood you mention.... I have done my share but would still like to attend something not too far away

JD....There are more than enough players within a radius of you for sure and likewise in the London area,
I know you have been chatting to Matt Park lately he is the very boy to pull something together, talk again and see what you can sort out!

Conor it will be a joy to have you with us, you may not be educated but you will be entertained for sure.

Bob, Mr.Park has just had another addition to his lovely young family and to that end he is a very busy young man......
On the other hand I am grumpy old and creaky and feel I have done my share, as proved by your great videos of the events......

Thanks for the shout Bob but it would seem that even younger blood in the form of Harry and Joe are having a bash at organising a meet. And they are more than qualified. I will attend and definitely help out in anyway I can but JD is right in the fact that my hands are well and truly full right now.
That aside, I would personally love to get to as many steel meetings as possible, even if they are a few hours away. It's always good to see everyone

Matt, keep your eyes on the forum for our irregular Sunday lunchtime meetings at "The Buck Inn, Thornton Watlass", you would be very welcome.
It's worth a family trip to stay at the pub (or in the area anyway) for a weekend, or even some days; the Yorkshire Dales are on our doorstep.
You would certainly be offered an amp to use and maybe a PSG could be loaned if we know in advance (or just call in to meet us).
