I just fitted a normal 10-string George L E-66 on the one I built, that works just fine. I don't think you need a purpose-built 8-string pickup.

You need to speak to Matt at Monty's guitars.

He is a wizard with pickups and will almost certainly be able to rewind your broken pickup for you.

He has done a great job rewinding weird vintage pickups for me and others that nobody else would even attempt.

Tell him I sent you.

To be honest, I can't remember what it cost to have two Fender trapezoid pickups rewound but I do remember thinking it was pretty reasonable and I found out afterwards that he had to build a special attachment for his pickup winder because of the unusual design of the pickups.

Another guy who is really good is Ash at Oil City pickups (also based in London) http://www.oilcitypickups.co.uk/. I had an old Hofner pickup from an archtop that was completely knackered and he made me a new pickup that fitted into the existing enclosure.

Both Matt and Ash are real perfectionists and their pickups sound great.
