Anyone in the UK remag pickups?

Postby R Hay » Tue Jan 06, 2015 1:32 pm

Hi Folks,

Anyone know if there's a "go to" person/ service in GB for putting the life back into my old Sho Bud pick ups?
Also my Dual Pro pickups could do with a bit of a zap....well, one certainly needs it!

...or would a re-wind be the best option?

The ShoBud pickups are 40 years old & the Fender one's are 63 years old so I guess they're due for a bit of love.

Here's hoping I don't have to send them to the US.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Also, I am on the hunt for another ShoBud d10 (but not a Pro ii or iii) & it's got to have the old style pedals (preferably all 8 of them!).

Hi to David H, John D, Mark D & Baz H & Pete who played with Dexeter (?) in Nov.
Hope it's all good with you guys.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can chip in with some sage-ness.
Rich... still playing & stubbornly keeping it country in spite of it all

I can recommend Matt at Monty's guitars, here in London.

He's a guy who really understands pickups. He rewound the pickups for both my Dual Pro (the trapezoid ones) and a friend's one and we were both delighted with his work. He had to make a special bobbins to do the rewind so he's already geared up for the job and familiar with the pickups.

He also wired up my Quad Stringmaster for me and made a great job of that (luckily all the pickups were still in good shape, but he did check them for me).

I don't know anything about Sho-Bud pickups but if they are anything like regular guitar pickups (but with extra pole pieces) I doubt if he'll have a problem with them. As you know, those trapezoid pickups from the Dual Pro are unusual in that the string goes through the pickup itself and not many people are able or willing to work on them. You can get him on 020 3239 1980 or 07921 916 053 or Email him at [email protected]
Web site is http://www.montysguitars.com

Please tell him I sent you as I told him I'd put the word out around the Steel Guitar community.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the speedy reply; that's ace!

I did have a quick google but you can't beat a reply from someone who's actually 'been there' with it so cheers again!
London too, so not too much of a mission.
Nice one!
