I'm familiar with the 400, 800, 1000 and 2000 models but not that one.

there are a few 400s on ebay come up from time to time, saw a 800 last week[10 string] and an old battered 1000 on the usa ebay, to be perfectly honest, i dont know what i want , well i do but can't find any at a reasonable price or keep getting outbid

The 1000 is great if, like me, you are primarily a lap steel player and want to use some pedals to get some interesting extra tunings or avoid some bar slanting.
Also, Speedy West played one for a while so that was enough reason for me to buy one - didn't make me sound like him though

The good thing about them is that it's easy to change things around - I've currently got one neck tuned to E9 with 3 pedals allowing me to do the cliche riffs (about my limit on E9 ) and my usual A6 on the other neck with 5 pedals.
The other good thing (for me) is that each neck is 8 strings with similar spacing to a Stringmaster.
They sound great.

Disadvantages are that if you want to explore the more modern pedal steel styles it's probably not the right instrument - can't do half and full step bends on the same string - no knee levers, no chromatic strings (most modern steels have at least 10 strings) but then again, none of this seemed to bother Sneaky Pete.
It weighs a ton - magical combination of really heavy wood in a cast iron frame. For this reason, mine rarely leaves the house.

great answer jeff, i was told to get a 1000 by an old pal of mine that has become a steel player, moe kabir, he reckons for the stuff i like to play[western swing/very early country] this is the geetar to buy, as it is easy to change around just like you say, ive never played pedal steel, to be honest ive never even seen one in the flesh...ive got to the stage where i need to play with other like minded chaps, so i thought instead of doing my usual buying cheap, not crap, but sub standard geetars due to lack of cash id get a loan of £1500, this is for the geetar and a decent amp! well ive got the amp, a nice peavey classic 50 amp with 4x10 speaker cab, now i need a decent twin neck preferbly fender, but maybe gibson, whatever! im not a collector but i do have a few lap steels, all of which get played at least once a week...i have lee jeffries in the usa looking out for me, he may have an old richenbacker twin from tod clinesmith but he hasnt been in touch for a while...so dont know whats happening with that! been a bitch lately as ive got to the verge of buying a few nice geetars recently, only to be outbid or to find shipping costs are too expensive etc... all i want is a nice twin 8 with a nice old vintage sound/stylee for a decent fair price... someone help me PLEASE

I've got an old Rickenbacher (not a typo) twin neck with 2 x 8 string Bakelite necks and an aluminium body in storage if you're interested. Since I've got my twin and triple neck Fenders (not to mention the 1000 steel) I doubt if I'll ever play it again and I hate to think of lovely old instruments just sitting in a box somewhere. It is late 40's I believe.

It looks similar to this one. Sounded great last time I used it.

If you might be interested, I'll go get it and post some pictures of my one. I am sure that some of the guys here will be able to help us find a fair price with no worries about shipping and customs associated with finding one in the States.

Hi Jeff, i may be interested in the rick but would much prefer to buy one of the fenders? ...im actual watching a triple fender at the mo? doubt ill get it but it seems a good price to me £998 but then add on the dreaded shipping and import tax and its getting beyond my limit....i may have to sell my frypan to help with the ol spondoolee

The one in LA. That looks pretty much identical to mine. Lovely instrument. Also very heavy!!!
Depending on cost of shipping you're probably looking at another £350 or so on top for import duty plus whatever the carrier charges for its handling fee.
You get charged VAT on the postage as well as on the item itself.
