I have been following this post with great interest and would like offer my opinion, but, it has to taken not to seriously, I know absolutely nothing about MSA, SHO PRO, INFINITY, or probably any other guitar on the market, surely one of the signs of a great guitar is longevity. if it's no good it won't last. Seems to me MSA has been around a lot longer than most. I rest my case.

The thread should not be taken too seriously in any way whatsoever. Just banter between us old codgers who are very precious our guitars. :D

Ivor, Ivor what you got yourself into----you should have taken my advice in Dublin and taken Frances on a nice cruise in some far away place, rather than buying more kit.

Best regards.

David....Surely you have better things to do...I mean wasting your time on an old bunch, like us is crazy.....As Ken says it is not meant to be taken seriously....I know you are a push pull man, so making you change your mind would be hard to do....Really there is no bad steel's on the market to-day
A good sho-bud can still compete for tone with anything ....The only problem with one of those is, ... Women and Scotsmen cannot play those on stage...
..
The knee levers have so much travel, it can cause embarrassment for the front rows in the audience.........Mr Byng had his wonderful Showpro here just after the Irish Festival...He tried it out on my Telonics rack system and boy does it have some sustain and a big fat midrange tone...Truth be told I'm jealous ....Johnston Curran was at the last club meeting with his new Showpro......It really is a very nice guitar and very well built....The colour was the Loydd Green version....Johnston was wearing a blue shirt and a light green jacket, and we were just saying it was all perfect match . He really looked the part sat behind the guitar.............Ted has completely sold out of all his guitars , including the Infinity to money bags Mr Byng....he kept the new Mullen and it sounds good and looks great.....Like all the guitars Ted plays

Because I can't play a note,..... I buy guitars for the interest,, and being mechanically minded I pay a lot of attention to the quality of materials and build quality...........MSA more expensive... Yes......Not a lot more than normal, but boy you get your moneys worth....You cannot buy a rolls Royce for the price of a Mini....The mini will get you there....But look at the style of the great MSA guitars

Micro space build MSA steel guitars as a novelty side line.......Their main business is making parts for the stealth bombers and stuff for Boeing...Also many types of artificial limbs for human use.....David you better ignore all this stuff....Its really all a load of old cobblers , I suppose....If Mr Byng lived here ,,we would all end up better steel players...He is an excellent teacher.....Not Cheap but like an MSA...Worth every penny

Ivor
I think that all pedal steel players should play an Emmons push pull at sometime in their life, and preferably own one. Experiencing that wonderful sustain is a unique thing. They are not the easiest of beasts to set up, but once done stay in that mode for ages. Put a chrome surround 705 pickup on it and you have an incredible tone machine. Mikey Johnston has four of them (push pulls) and loves their sound. He has a very discerning ear. KB

You know my thoughts on Teds playing---he sounds good on anything he plays, because a lot of tone is in the hands /touch/ability to have a particular tone in your head----just my opinion only----

And for what it is worth, There is no reason whatsoever with your particular skills, that you could not design/build a guitar yourself and call it "The Greenwood"-----a nice shade of Green lacquer would be appropriate.

No I'm not joking, I would encourage you to build one ---------

Best regards.

Not sure that a Greenwood guitar will be any good to you Mr McMistress. The body would be constructed of WOOD not plastic. Even Ivor has the good sense to realise that an organic material has better sonic qualities than that of man made material. MSA have even cottoned onto that fact and stopped making the carbon fibre bodies.

Hard rock or aged flame or birds eye maple does the job perfectly. :D
