Pedal Steel Wanted

Postby DonRecardo » Sat Jul 26, 2014 6:26 pm

Hi as I said in the new members section , I have just joined the forum

I dont yet play but now I have retired I have the time and want to learn so need to buy a guitar

I thought I had more or less decided that I would like a Stage One with 3 on the floor + 4 knees , based on all the good reports I had read and
infact I would still be happy with that model however , others have told me not to dismiss the idea of an older pro model.

I must admit I had not considered this thinking anything more than a student model would be out of my price range but from the replies to my
post it seems not
( actually I lie, I had dreamed of a twin neck E9, C6 I just dont think I will ever afford one, but dreaming costs nothing :) ) .
So, I will consider anything that might be suitable though if it is a student model I would only really like a Stage One
as other student models dont seem to get rated as highly .
It seems the majority of forum members seem happy to give advice when I find something and will tell me if it is suitable for me
and whether its a good deal or not so that is reassuring

So does any one have anything for sale ?

Cheers

My wife said £800 but I think I can stretch her to £1000 but that would be the absolute max

I already have an amp and pedal so really I just need the guitar out of my budget

You could get a second hand SD10 ZB Custom for less than that money. Set up properly it is a very fine guitar, and more substantive tonewise than a Stage One, which is an OK guitar but nothing more.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

What Ken says. I've happily played ZBs in the past and one was my "set-up-in-the-house" guitar for ages. They are a fine pro. guitar, only a little out of fashion just now. Bags of great tone available, pedals work really well, with a fast action and any mechanism problem can be easily fixed without recourse to "original" parts. It's fairly easy to understand how it works. Moving the knee-lever placement and angle is quirky compared to most other brands, but with very little ingenuity you can sort any problems. What you get is a solid workhorse that can deliver on stage or at home. I even think they look good! Cons? - they are heavy!
Fender SM T-8: Shakey 10-plank: Ricky 6: Harmony H7 R Smeck,: plus "home-mades"
Fender D-10: Sierra D-11:
Resos- Goldtone 8 string & Regal 7
FenderTwin: Peavey Delta Blues: Marshall AS50R: DigiTech>GK MB200->Telonics 15"

Yes

I have agreed a deal with Phil to buy his Bennett S10 in a few weeks time,
it is a nice steel, about 12 years old. it has a keyless head . it has a great tone.
green/blue /torqoise lacquer finish. Aluminium neck. 5 knees and 3 pedals

I asked Johns advice as I dont know one PSG from another and he said it would be very suitable for me
so I have taken his advice and told Phil I would like it

I just have to wait till his new guitar arrives and then I can collect it , He is hoping it will be within 3 weeks

Getting excited now

Thanks every one that offered advice , I would never had thought to go for
anything other than a student model otherwise

Hi Don, How are you getting on with your Bennett PSG? I'm interested because I ordered one from Ron Bennett a while back and just waiting for him to let me know I can collect it.
Cheers,
