Steel guitar items wanted

hi gang, right i've been a right c**k head...as some may be aware ive been putting together an 8 string lapsteel...anyways, i was stripping it down to put on a few last coats of lacquer when i noticed i'd screwed a screw straight through the pickup cable

and as i removed the screw it came away in 2 pieces, one attached to the pots, the other much shorter bit attached to the pickup...what i want to know is can i rescue said pickup by soldering the wires back together and covering with plastic sleeve or is it a lost cause in which case i have to buy a new pickup? cheers terry

Hi Terry,
If its a straight break in the cable, then yep! soldering them back should be ok, certainly worth a try, I cant see that its going to make any difference to the pathway, simple pick up wiring is passive, carries hardly any voltage, so no danger there.
As long as you clean the wire first and make a good clean job of the soldering. And as you say- screen the finished job with cable sleeve or even neatly applied insulting tape will suffice.
Best of luck with it.
Hows things going youre end?
Dave.
