For some time now I have been considering total retirement. Leicester is S***t when it cones to country and I am getting fed up of doing the utube/vimeo stuff so I reckon it's time to bow out. I have always in the past been told I have sold my instruments too cheaply and having seen the prices people are asking lately, I think yes that's right. I see someone is selling an MSA Semi Classic with 3+3 for £1595?????? well that makes my MCI S10 with 3+5 worth at least 2 grand. I am not an idiot, I know exactly what my guitar is worth so if someone is prepared to offer me a descent price it will be sold. There is plenty of stuff on vimeo (which is on the BSS forum) so you can see and hear exactly what this instrument is like. OPEN to OFFERS.

You are one of the best players in the UK, and to retire while you are still more than capable of doing it is sacrilege. I can fully understand your frustration, as the country scene is nothing like it was in our heyday. But, to turn your back on the instrument would be a great big mistake. Been there and done that one. I retired many years ago for 7 years, my gear was in my garage slowly going rusty, and if it wasn't for a dear friend of mine spending time convincing me to come back again to the music scene, I reckon I would probably still be retired. I am 66, and have work coming out of my ears at the moment. It wasn't always like that, and I'm sure that you only need to do a few gigs to get your face back on the market to generate your interest again. To put it succinctly, YOUR COUNTRY (music) NEEDS YOU!) Unless you are desperate for the money, it would be a mistake to flog off hard earned gear.

Although you don't know me and I've only seen you from the chest down, I feel I've got to tell you how much I've enjoyed and appreciated your online videos. It would be very sad to lose your input from this forum. I hope there's a chance that you'll reconsider.

Dont do it, I can assure you it doesn't work.
I had no choice for a couple years (health) but thankfully kept my gear, now I hardly ever miss a day of playing, my gigging days are sadly over but to be able to sit at my steel and reminisce is grand.
You are an inspiration to so many players, you cant pack it in, we wont let you.
I know an ex boss of ours from 40 years ago who would go daft if she knew

Well gentlemen what can I say, I really do appreciate all of your supportive comments and of course this makes it very difficult to know exactly what to do. This is not a money thing, quite honestly I love this guitar and have realised it is every bit as good as the twin neck MCI I had. I am just so frustrated and because my so called brother is determined to wreck everything I do just wonder whether it is worth going on. (So called brother you ask? Well he refers to me as his Genetic brother,) make of that what you will. Anyway at the moment I am enjoying a lovely week in Skipton away from all the hastle, in spite of the wind and rain so I shall have another think when I get home. Hi Dave,

I was about to log out when I read your post, I just had to reply. You are one of the best players around and I am sure that your videos have inspired other players regardless of their ability level. I can understand your frustration at the present time with venues closing etc. but below the surface you love the steel guitar, it shows in your playing. Think again, take a break from playing, find a new project but do not sell your steel as you will in time regret it and it is a very expensive hill to climb to purchase new gear. Take heed of the fellow players posts who have been down that road and who can speak from first hand experience.
