Ormston/Denley SD 10 for sale

Postby Zebedee » Mon Mar 25, 2013 7:12 pm

When I bought this steel, about 20 years ago, it was a Double 8, which didn't suit my playing style, so I converted it to a padded rear neck 10 string, E9 tuning, 3 pedals, and 4 levers, and did many gigs with it.

It is set up the Jimmy Day way, ie the pedals are CBA, the E lowers are done on the LKL, the E raises are done on the LKR.

The RKL lowers the 6th string a full tone, and the RKR lowers strings 2 and 9 to C#, with the 9th string acting as the half-stop for the 2nd string semitone drop to D.

It is an extremely easy steel to play, due to the addition of helper springs.

It has got an aluminiumn neck with a bolt-on pull-release changer, if you look at some of my videos on youtube (I call myself steelie1955) it's the white steel.

Now for the bad news:

The legs are non-adjustable, (although a competent person could easily make some extensions) and the pedals/levers are positioned to suit my preference, so the steel ideally suits someone of my small stature, 5 foot 6" (on a good day)

I'm looking for around £650 (cash)

I would prefer the purchaser to collect the steel from Shrewsbury.

In the last few years, I have altered my position at the steel, moving my body further to the right, which, paradoxically, has meant moving my pedals further to the left.

I had to make a special 'C' pedal to 'bridge' over the cast segment in the pedal bar, but I still have the original pedal if the purchaser wants to put it back to standard.

The case has lost a bit of its 'newness', but is still serviceable.

The steel weighs approximately 37 lbs, and the case weighs approximately 14 lbs.

I would prefer that the purchaser collects the steel from Shrewsbury.

Perhaps £650 was a little ambitious for a Denley, so I have dropped the price to £500 region

For any "Newbie" this is a great opportunity to get a playable steel for little money.... my advice would be go for it!! I don`t think the mechanics of it would have much in common with the original Denley ..... you only have to listen to what Richard can do with it........ ;)
