Postby STEDDIE EDDIE » Sat Jul 16, 2011 11:09 am

Oh we are a suspicious lot on here! after the Emmons LG, was it cosher? wasn;t it? just noticed a ZB 3 x 1 student looking guitar on ebay, but i never saw a ZB anything like it, must have been their version of the maverick, looks like moulded plastic, hard to tell, going cheap at £375, a lot cheaper than the £600 some one islooking for a sho bud maverick on there, any one throw any light on this blue ZB? again some one selling for the owner, but they seem to know a bit, mentionng the' LATE GREAT' Tom Brumley and Zane Beck in their description, its in Ipswich, local pick up only, no paypal

Same guy has a Fendr Bassman which looks good.
I do'nt know the going price for Bass(men) or is it bass(persons) :)
The ZB does look a genuine guitar.
I guess we will hear from our experts soon.
Ken? Frank? Bob? Richard?

Eddie,
It's a ZB Student.
I had a red one many years ago.
The plastic top is vacuum-formed on to a wooden top board/neck.
I took the plastic off mine, and varnished the wood.

The ZB student has exactly the same changer and mechanics as all ZB's, which means that there is much 'cussing' when working on the underside :o but they do have a good tone (at least, the one I had sounded good).

Mine also had terrible cabinet drop, but, had I known then (20 years ago) what I know now, I could have tamed the drop to manageable proportions.

Yeah! tasty enough these are! with the classic ZB tone! The cast alloy frame (as with the Fender 400/800/1000s) makes it an engine hoist job! but that apart it has all the ZB characteristics fame, fun and frustration, seriously though once they are set up (as Richard will testify ) they don't move!

As for sound well, this was one Donny gave me to tweak last year.

I think I've said this before. Once of the best steel guitars for tone that I have ever played in my life (and i have played quite a number) was a ZB Student 3 + 4. It had a tone to die for - the archetypal ZB tone in a little Student model.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,
